After a suspect week one start versus UT Martin, Hayden Moore was looking to bounce back with a better performance against Purdue Saturday.
After struggling in the first game with two bad turnovers Moore bounced back yesterday with a solid performance. He silenced all the doubters throwing for 250 yards on 19-32 passing and 3 touchdowns. Moore also ran for 58 yards and 2 touchdowns. Moore praised his big guys up front for the success offensively yesterday. "I think I’m getting more comfortable in the pocket,” said Moore. “The offensive line is doing great and I do not have to run out so fast I got sacked one time today, but that was my fault.” Moore was right as he was sacked only one time all afternoon.
One of the biggest areas of the game I pinpoint the successful afternoon for Moore was the success the Bearcats had on third down. They completed 13 out of 21 third down conversions which definitely helped the offense develop a rhythm. The Bearcats receivers also did a good job of getting open at the right time. “We had a really good plan this week for third downs,” said Moore. “They play a lot of man to man defense and we had a lot of receivers making great routes and it’s just easy throws for third down conversions.”
As the Bearcats prepare for a primetime matchup they will need their quarterback to build off the success he had at Purdue Saturday. With Houston coming to town and Greg Ward across the sideline Moore will need a duplicate performance if the Bearcats want to have a chance at an upset. Moore showed us what’s he’s capable of and then some this past week. He will need a similar performance if not better for the Bearcats to beat the Cougars Thursday night at Nippert Stadium. After all he is the leader of this young team the buck starts and ends with him.
