The Cincinnati Bearcats were able to add their 12th member to their 2017 class, when Alabama native Jakari Robinson committed to the football program on Tuesday. Robinson is 6'2" and 315 pounds, he is projected to be a center at the next level. This was a nice get for the line as head coach Tommy Tuberville preached in his press conference that he wanted to make sure he gets more high school players so he can keep building the program up.
Bearcat Insider was able to talk with Jakari a few hours after he committed to the Bearcats. A quick note from the conversation is that he is super excited to be a Bearcat and you could hear it through the phone. Check out our conversation with the newest member of the Bearcats football program.
Bearcat Insider: What made you commit today?
Robinson: Just the fact I’ve been thinking about for a long time, I’ve been talking to coach and decided to go ahead and become a Bearcat.
Bearcat Insider: What programs did you have it narrowed down to? (Robinson had multiple offers)
Robinson: Middle Tennessee, JSU, Coastal Carolina and Cincinnati.
Bearcat Insider: What pushed you over the hill to become a Bearcat?
Robinson: I felt like it was the right move to do. I came for a camp over the summer and got a nice tour of the campus and facilities. I just loved the atmosphere, I just felt like I belonged.
Bearcat Insider: Which coaches have you been in contact the most throughout the process?
Robinson: Coach (Jeff) Koonz and Coach (J.B.) Grimes were the ones I was most in contact with during the process.
Bearcat Insider: When do you plan on visiting campus?
Robinson: I plan on visiting during the BYU game November 5th.
Robinson’s mother and grandmother plan on making the trip with him in November and he said they plan on getting UC gear soon. Even though they are from Alabama his family plans on traveling up to a lot games in the coming years.
We plan on reaching out to Jakari to see how his visit goes in a couple of weeks.
