you could cringe a little, but they were very opportunistic and besides a few busted coverages (one was a slip and the other was just a plain bust) they kept the Pirates out of the end zone. They gave up 504 yards total to the Pirates, but they caused three turnovers. Alex Thomas had an interception, Tyrell Gilbert had an interception and Eric Wilson had a fumble recovery. This unit is like night and day from last season.
Check out who received game balls for Saturday’s performance.
Game ball number one: Eric Wilson, linebacker- 16 tackles and 1 fumble recovery
Wilson as always played like a man with his hair on fire. He was everywhere on the field and this is just something you expect from the senior. Just a regular day at the office for number 23, clap for him.
Game ball number two: Zach Edwards, safety- 13 tackles and 1 tackle for loss
After being banged up for a few games the bye week seemed to really help Edwards look exactly like the Edwards Bearcat fans expect to see every weekend. He was flying around and even creeping around the line of scrimmage some. The back end is just better when he’s on the field.
Game ball number three: Antonio Kinard, linebacker- 11 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss
Kinard is the unsung hero on this unit this season nobody expected him to be ballin’ on a consistent basis, but this is just something we expect now. In the second half he was kicked out of the game for a suspect targeting call so he will miss the first half of the Temple game Saturday. Expect Perry Young to get his first start and pick the slack up until number 42 is back on the field in the third quarter.
