Bearcat Insider takes a look at the Cincinnati Bearcats next opponent the UCF Knights

The Cincinnati Bearcats are heading down to Orlando, Florida to take on American Athletic Conference foe the UCF Knights. The Bearcats are 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the AAC and the Knights are 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the AAC. If you want some cliff notes on the Knights check out our article.

Head Coach

First year head coach Scott Frost has done great work with the Knights they are knocking on the door of bowl eligibility. If they beat the Bearcats Saturday they will be at the magic sixth win. Nice start for a program that went winless just last season. Frost was the offensive coordinator for the Oregon Ducks and if you watch college football you know how the Ducks operated under Frost. The Bearcats can’t take this team lightly at all or they will be 4-6 overall and 1-5 in the AAC.

The offense is led by offensive coordinator Troy Walters. Walters has the Knights averaging 31.8 points per game.

The quarterback could either be freshman McKenzie Milton or senior Justin Holman. Milton in 6 games has thrown for 1200 yards, on 58.2% completion, 8 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He has also run for 105 yards and 3 touchdowns. Holman in 4 games has thrown for 433 yards, on 43.7% completion, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He has run for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Both have similar in style, but Holman is the more physically imposing. The Bearcats defense will have to stay alert on who is in the backfield

The Knights main running back is senior Dontravious Wilson. Wilson has run for 403 yards and 8 touchdowns. He only averages 44.8 yards per game, but the running attack averages 168.4 yards per game so it is a joint effort.

Sophomore wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith is the leading receiver this season. Smith has 38 receptions, 516 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The defense is led by defensive coordinator Erik Chinander. Chinander has the Knights holding opponents to 22.6 points per game. They keep teams at 364.0 yards per game (152.1 yards rushing/211.9 yards passing).

Linebackers Shaquem Griffin and Mark Rucker make all the plays for the front seven. Griffin has 65 tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and 1 interception. Rucker has 68 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

The secondary hawk is cornerback Shaquill Griffin. Griffin has 4 interceptions, 9 pass break ups and 37 tackles.
