Current Job: Western Kentucky – Head Coach
If Cincinnati looks to go with an offensive minded coach, there might not be any better than Brohm. The former “Kentucky High School Player of the Decade” for the 1980s played in college at Louisville and spent time six different NFL teams (1994-2000). The past three seasons have seen Brohm guide the Hilltoppers to a 30-10 record after he took over for Bobby Petrino. This season, Brohm’s has the number one scoring offense and defense in Conference USA to go with the second ranked overall offense and defense as his team has a per game average of 517.4 yards. The big question will be if Brohm sees his best move to Cincinnati, Purdue or maybe even Baylor?
Current Job: Western Michigan – Head Coach
The high-energy Fleck is a great recruiter and coach who has energized the WMU football program. Coach Fleck be the next Brian Kelly at UC? Many think so with the success he’s seen since taking over the Broncos program. After going 1-11 in his first season, Fleck has gone 29-10 with an undefeated season this year and berth in the Cotton Bowl. Fleck is a hot name, but may feel he can stay one more season at his current job before walking into a Power Five program. But we would not be surprised if other jobs that are currently open, have him high on their list as well.
Current Job: Troy University – Head Coach
Another of the hot young coaches in the game. Brown is known for his offense and even coached for Tommy Tuberville at Texas Tech as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Brown left Tech to return to his home state, Kentucky, where he held the same positions for Mark Stoops. In two seasons as the head coach at Troy, they Trojans have gone 13-11, including a 9-3 mark this season and Dollar General Bowl berth.
Current Job: Toledo – Head Coach
An Ohio native, Candle took over the Toledo program when Matt Campbell departed for Iowa State. This season, Toledo has gone 9-3 finishing second in the Mid-American Conference West Division. Another of the young offensive minded coaches the Bearcats could consider.
Current Job: Oklahoma – Offensive Coordinator
Riley is another of a long list of young offensive minded coaches being talked about in the college game. However, a native of Texas, Riley has no ties to the Midwest and might just be too young at 33 years of age.
Current Job: Appalachian State – Head Coach
The North Carolina native is another offensive minded coach who spent the 2009 season as the quarterback coach and passing game coordinator at Toledo. No other ties to the Midwest to be found and Appalachian State is his home. Has been the Mountaineers head coach since the 2013 season and has posted an overall record of 31-18.
Current Job: Unemployed
Many will throw out Strong as a possible guy to look at. However, we don’t see the fit as he’s just coming off a situation much like the Bearcats just left. Yes, Strong had success at Louisville. However, he’d also have to overcome some issues in recruiting in the area when he dropped a few prospects after commitments when in charge of the Cardinals.
Current Job: Ohio State – Assistant Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator
Bearcat fans remember Schiano from his days at Rutgers. After a failed attempt in the NFL, Schiano returned to the college game at Ohio State. His only ties to the area comes from his time with the Buckeyes. Also, he’s a defensive minded coach.
