The No. 25 Cincinnati Bearcats welcomed the Texas Southern Tigers into Fifth Third Arena on a wet Tuesday night in December. The home team fresh off of a loss to #16 Butler were looking to get back on the winning track.
In the first half a few shockers happen, mainly Quadri Moore getting his first start of the season in place of Kyle Washington. Washington wasn’t hurt, but after his performance at Butler, I believe Mick Cronin wanted to teach the team’s leading scorer a lesson. During the early part of the first half it was sloppy and at one point the Bearcats were only up 10-9, but after turning it up they finished up 37-23. The Tigers outrebounded the Bearcats 25-21 in the first half, but UC only committed one turnover in the first twenty minutes.
In the second half Jarron Cumberland scored all 18 of his career high points. As a team the Bearcats shot 69.7% from the field in the second half and 56.3% from the field for the game. They only had 3 turnovers for the entire game. Shooting 70% rounded up and only committing 3 turnovers will normally win you a game.
The Bearcats are now 8-2 and play Fairleigh Dickenson on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
Jacob Evans suffered an apparent head injury, but came back into the game.
Five Bearcats scored in double digits starting with Jarron Cumberland with 18 points, Gary Clark with 13 points, Tre Scott with 11 points, Kevin Johnson with 10 points and Jacob Evans with 10 points.
