The Lady Bearcats fall 63-45 at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

A fast start wasn't enough for Coach Laurie Pirtle's Lady Bearcats in their C-USA opener against UAB. After jumping out to an 8-0 lead the Bearcats saw the Blazers go on a 13-2 run and never looked back.

While the Lady Bearcats fought and came close a couple of times, they never could get over the hump and fell 63-45 to the Blazers.

Leading the Blazers were Carmen Guzman and Crystal McFadden with 15 points a piece. Domaneice Moore pulled down 11 boards (5 offense - 6 defense) and score 8 points on the night. The Blazers would out rebound the Bearcats 41-29 and place eight players in the scoring column.

The Bearcats saw Anne Stephens score 11 points in 28 minutes of play. But as a team the Bearcats hit only 35.3% from the field. Even worse was the Bearcats performance from the 3-point line. For the night the Bearcats took 13 shots from 3-point territory all came in the first half. The plan failed as the team shot 2-13 in the first half (15.4%) while the Blazers would go 5-10 (50%).

This was only the first stop of a 2 game road trip. The 7-8 Lady Bearcats travel to Tampa, Florida for a 2 p.m. tip-off against the University of South Florida Sunday afternoon. They will then return home for a 7:00 p.m. game on the 12th against North Dakota State at Fifth Third Arena.
