It's only been 24 hours and rumors have already started about who is behind Bearcat Insider. Well let's see if we can put these rumors to rest.
From some of the things we've heard you would have thought some mass murderers or even worse a Xavier fan, UK fan or Cardinal fan were in charge of this site. One person even said we ran the Ohio State site Bucknuts.
All of the above things are false except for the mass murder part of the rumors. Ok, so that's not true either.
But one thing is for sure. The main principals involved in this venture have some big plans for the upcoming months and years.
So who are these people that just showed up and started posting about your beloved Bearcats? Well I can't tell you about everyone because were still building our staff. But let me give you some information about the two main parties involved in building this into a top site.
BearcatInsider.com has two publishers in charge of the site. Both have been covering sports from the prep level and college levels for several years. Each of them are different in their field of expertise. That diversity will help shape the site.
First let's look at the old man in the bunch. Many of you may have seen Dave Berk's work in the past. He's very involved with football recruiting and the Big East football scene. In fact Dave has seen every current Big East team play in person during the past 5 years.
Why has Dave been involved with Big East football? Because Dave's brother Jeff Berk just finished a five year stint at West Virginia University were he started 34 games and earned 2nd Team All-Big East as a Junior and 1st Team All-Big East as a Senior. In the near future Jeff will give Bearcat fans some insight into what lies ahead in the "New" Big East.
But the biggest thing Dave has done over the years is covering the top football players from Ohio and where their going to college. Dave will bring Bearcat fans information on all the football players looking hard at the Bearcats program. In the past Dave has covered many current Bearcats. They include.
Scott Chillinsky, Mike Daniels, Nick DeFilippo, Trevor Canfield, Delbert Ferguson, Bradley Glatthaar, Anthony Hoke, Brandon Yingling, Lamonte Nelms and many, many more.
In fact Dave was the only recruiting expert talking about Bradley Glatthaar when the Elder running back wasn't seeing much interest from college coaches. The Bearcats took the Panthers back and he played as a true freshman.
With football having growing interest since the announcement of the teams move into the Big East. Basketball is KING for the Bearcat faithful. That is why it was important to have a top person involved in giving the best basketball coverage available to all Bearcat fans.
Kyle Lamb has fast earned a reputation of getting the scoop on what's going on with some of the top basketball prospects in the country. While he's only 24, he's built a great base of contacts around the country and will share his knowledge with all Bearcat fans.
Kyle is a graduate of East Knox High School. He attended the Ohio Center for Broadcasting in the Cleveland suburb of Independence, Ohio after high school. In fact Kyle started his professional career as an intern during his senior year of high school for 50,000-watt radio station, 610 WTVN-AM. While there his duties involved being the intern for the sports talk show "Munch on Sports". He has since worked as a board operator for a station in his hometown of Mt. Vernon, Ohio.
His career as a sports writer started with his hometown paper the Mt. Vernon News. His latest duties have been writing for several sites within the Scout.com network. Because of the work he's done within the network he earned the right to become part of Bearcat Insider.
One of Kyle's biggest projects involves the NCAA Basketball Championships. Kyle is part of a 10-person committee that produces a mock NCAA tournament bracket. This committee is headed by Jerry Palm of CollegeRPI.com. By using the NCAA's real procedures and policies, the group meets during the weeks leading up to Selection Sunday and form their own "mock" brackets and release them just hours before the real committee release the official field for that years tournament to compare.
Kyle grew up a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds in addition to watching Ohio State Football. But it's been basketball that Kyle loves and Bearcat basketball is at the top of that list. Keep an eye out for Kyle at upcoming Bearcat games.
Both Dave and Kyle have been working over the past 5 months in putting this site together. Their goals are lofty but achievable. Plans are in the work for a full color glossy magazine as well as either a radio show or internet web cast about Bearcat sports.
But that's not all.
Ozie Davis III has been involved with Bearcat sports over the years. A writer for the Cincinnati Herald, Ozie has covered the games and team over the years. While Ozie has basketball running through his blood, football has always been of great interest for the Cincinnati native. Ozie played football at Miami of Ohio University and has many contacts in both basketball and football around the country.
Well there you have it. These three men are at the center of Bearcat Insider. We have a couple of more people who will be bringing you Bearcat sports information and will announce them in the future.
