In a press release dated today (May 20, 2005) the University of Cincinnati announced the resignation of Associate Athletic Director for Academics Bruce Ivory.

Mr. Ivory was a staple of the Bearcat athletic program and served the department for 21 years.

The reason for Mr. Ivory's resignation was an arrest on driving while under the influence charge. UC Director of Athletics Bob Goin accepted the resignation.

Bearcat Insider wishes Mr. Ivory the best in the future and would like to thank him for his service to the UC athletic program. While we have only been up and running since the first of the year, I would like to thank Bruce for allowing us time to get to know him. Trust me when I say, Bruce Ivory will be missed by many within and outside of the program.

Here is the official press release from the university.

Associate AD Bruce Ivory Resigns

CINCINNATI, Ohio — University of Cincinnati Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Compliance Bruce Ivory has offered his resignation, following his arrest on a driving while under the influence charge, and UC Director of Athletics Bob Goin has accepted that resignation.

"Bruce Ivory is a respected, loyal employee who has risen under my administration to a very influential position as associate athletic director for Academics and Compliance," Goin stated.  "That influence relates to emphasis on student-athletes academic discipline and athletic compliance—staying within the rules.

"I am saddened by the unfortunate turn of events which has led to Bruce's resignation," Goin added.

Ivory has been a member of the UC athletic department for the past 21 years.  He originally joined the staff in 1984 as assistant football coach.  He left coaching in 1994 and became Assistant AD for Academic Services in 1995 after serving as interim director for a year.  He was promoted to Associate AD in 2002.
