Last season the Bearcats coaching staff went into the "Show Me State" of Missouri and came away with a steal in tight end Kazeem Alli (Hazelwood Central High School in Florissant, Missouri). This year they have returned with sights on one of the top middle linebackers in the Midwest.
Tyler Epstein made the trip from Farmington, Missouri to the fields of Colerain High School on Sunday afternoon. The 6-foot-3 210 pound linebacker has seen interest from several schools including the Bearcats this winter and spring. Having already camped at Iowa, Epstein came to Cincinnati and will then head off to Miami of Ohio before heading over to Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Northwestern. Was the trip worth it?
Here's a breakdown of Tyler Epstein.
Size: While listed at 6-foot-3, Epstein looks more like he's 6-foot-2. While his weight has been listed at 210 pounds, you can see he's getting thicker and looks to be hitting around the 220 mark at this time.
Feet: Tyler is your typical middle linebacker. He's got great feet and balance and has a nose for the football.
Potential: Tyler has some great potential for the next level. While he's still working hard, Tyler is such a natural linebacker he's aggressive while on the field. Tyler is the type of player who could come in and fight for some special teams play early, and then look to win a linebacker spot the following spring.
Academics: Tyler is a very smart young man who shouldn't have any problem in making the grade.
Overall: While at camp we witnessed Coach Narduzzi working with Tyler (One-on-One) and Tyler responded great by making the adjustments in using the right foot and techniques in coverage.

This is not the first time Tyler Epstein has been on Bearcat Insider. The Farmington Sr. High School product visited during the spring practice Junior Day. While Tyler expressed a deep interest in the Bearcats then, his return for Coach Dantonio's Summer Camp proves the Bearcats are high on his list.
