Panthers and Bearcats Battle for River Rights

Panthers and Bearcats to battle for trophy in annual game starting this season.

Cincinnati long to find another rival in the Big East.

Today the University of Cincinnati and University of Pittsburgh have announced a battle between the two schools who have deep ties to the Ohio River.

While the trophy hasn't yet been created, the battle lines are drawn between the two schools. The game will be named the River City Rivalry and will join other battles for the Victory Bell (Miami) and Keg of Nails (Louisville).

Cincinnati director of athletics Bob Goin has this to say in a press release from the university.

"I think this is a natural rivalry. When you think about the NFL rivalry between the Steelers and the Bengals, you've got to think about the Panthers and the Bearcats. I think this will develop into a tremendous rivalry."

While the Bearcats now have the three trophy games, Pittsburgh's biggest rival will still be West Virginia University in the annual Backyard Brawl.
