Preseason Camp Higher Ground Day 3

Another hot day on the grounds of Camp Higher Ground saw many changes for the Bearcats on the field. Tim Adams was on hand and has the full report.

It was another hot practice for the Cincinnati Bearcats at Camp Higher Ground. Some tempers flared and some personnel changed positions.

-The BIG news of the day, as BCI suggested yesterday, was David Wess was moved to safety. David got a lot of reps with the #2 group.

-Jared Martin returned to receiver after spending the last several days with the corners.

-Terry Arnold moved to linebacker today.

-Gabe Etter a 6' 2" 235 lbs. sophomore walk-on tight end from West High has been added to the roster. He takes Derrick Stewart's spot.

-The number of yellow jerseys were way down today. They included only Marcus Waugh, Patrick Farfsing, and Bill Poland. Also Bill Poland was MUCH improved today. He was jogging and going threw some drills with the trainers.

-The green jersey guys included Brad Bury, Kevin McCullough, and Brad Jones.

-Patrick Mimms was upgraded and returned to full practice.

-Trevor Anderson took over the #1 DE spot opposite Adam Roberts and played well. The #1 D-line tonight was Roberts, Newton, Wimmer/Byrd, and Anderson. The #2 unit was Carvitti/M. Brown, D. Brown, Byrd, and Germany. Terrill took reps with both groups.

-The #1 O-line was the same with Eastlake, Brown, Webster, Reinstatler, and Bujnoch. The #2 unit included Bolton, Flores/Straub, Yakovac, Simon, and El-Amin.

-The #1 linebackers were Anthony Hoke, Leo Morgan and Corey Smith.

-The #1 defensive backs were Dominic Ross and Haruki Nakamura at the safeties and Antoine Horton and Walter Dudley at the corners. Cedric Tolbert and Mike Mickens shared time at corner with the #2 unit.

-Chet Ervin easily won the punting contest today. He was absolutely outstanding with high and long punts.

-In a 9 on 9 drill, Dwight Stargel put a devastating block on Cory Smith, but Smith bounced back the very next play and brought Glatthaar down for no gain. Stargel had a good day at FB.

-El-Amin gave a cheap shot to Terrill Byrd in the 9 on 9 drill. Coach Dantonio sent El-Amin running. El-Amin had been trash talking to Donnell Mackenzie in an earlier drill.

-Antwuan Giddens had a good day in the 7 on 7 passing drill. He beat Mike Mickens deep for one score.

-Antoine Horton is still somewhat hampered by a groin injury, but he's practicing full go every day.

-Claggett and Mimms each showed their temper today. In fact, Coach Gill was yelling at both of them during practice. Coach Gill doesn't yell a lot.

-We saw the first full scrimmage tonight for a handful of series. The defense got the better of the offense for the most part until the 2 minute drill. Lovell hit a 43 yard field goal in a battle of the #2 units, but the highlight for the offense was during a 2 minute drill with the #1's. Dustin Grutza was flushed to his left but threw a 40 yard TD pass to Derick Ross. DeAngelo Smith was the nickle back in the 2 minute drill.

-I was told that the players who worked out over the summer have been given rooms in the plush lodge while the others are being housed in the bunkhouses.
