Big East MVP's Week One

On Monday, the Big East released their MVP's for week one play. See who received these special honors.

The Big East Conference released Big East Conference Players of the Week today after the first weekend of play by member schools.

On the offensive side of the football, University of Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza earned season opening honors.

Grutza, a redshirt freshman from Maysville, Kentucky, passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third as the Bearcats defeated Eastern Michigan 28-26 on Thursday night. On the night he completed 17 of 26 passes for 176 yards in his first college game. He also rushed for 49 yards and scored on a 21-yard run.

On Defense, another Big East newcomer earned Big East honors.

Elvis Dumervile powered the Louisville defense during their victory over In-State-Rival Kentucky. Dumervil recorded a school-record six sacks as the Cardinals defeated the Wildcats 31-24.

On Special Teams the Big East honored Connecticut punt return specialist Larry Taylor who averaged 23.6 yards per return as the Huskies defeated Buffalo 38-0.
