BCI: MVP's - Game Balls: Penn State

While the outcome didn't favor the Bearcats, there were still several players who had big games against Penn State. BCI gives out game MVP's and Game Balls.

Brent Celek: The tight end showed why he's considered one of the top tight ends in the country. With seven catches for 73 yards Brent keep several drives alive.

Dustin Grutza: While Dustin would have like a better outcome, he showed why he's got a chance to become one of Cincinnati's all-time greats at the quarterback position. With pressure in and out of the pocket all day, Grutza keep his poise and followed the game play given to him. In the end he would pass for 286 yards and a touchdown. The only downside was two interceptions and the outcome.

Connor Barwin: The true freshman tight end showed why Bearcats coaches are so high on him. While his playing time came in mop-up duty, he showed great hands and the ability to get open. But one area Connor needs to work on his holding onto the ball. In the short time on the field he pulled down 2 passes for 72 yards.

Doug Jones: While he only caught 2 passes, Jones showed why his athletic ability will be a weapon for the Bearcats this season.

Derick Ross: The senior showed his great ability in pulling down 3 passes and one touchdown on the day. While Jackson and Giddens are the future, the old man on the offense still knows how to get the job done.

Haruki Nakamura: The sophomore totaled 12 tackles to go with an interception on the day. Out of those 12 tackles 8 were solo and 1 was a tackle for a loss. By flying around the field Nakamura played maybe his best game as a Bearcat.

Mike Mickens: The true freshman was picked on by Penn State but still came away with a nice game. While he got beat on a couple of plays, Mickens was on the spot and just inches away from making the play. Overall he recorded 8 tackles (7 solo) and one pass breakup. How good can Mickens become down the road? If he keeps the same work ethic the sky is the limit.

Kevin McCullough: Another great job by the linebacker. On the day Kevin recorded 6 total tackles (5 solo), two tackles for loss and 1 sack.

Corey Smith: Another true freshman who is playing like an older player. Smith is a stud in the making and will keep getting better. On the day he recorded 5 total tackles (3 solo) and is learning to be a force on defense.

Chet Ervin: After seeing his starting spot taken against Eastern Michigan, Ervin worked and earned the job back for the Penn State game. On the day Chet punted 6 times for 231 yards ( avg. 38.5) with 2 inside the 20.
