Keys To The Game: Western Carolina

As one of only "2" Bearcats to record over 400 tackles in his career, Karl Woods knows a thing or two about the game of football. This week Karl is Bearcat Insiders Special Guest with his "Keys to the Game" Western Carolina style.

Each week Bearcat Insider likes to bring you "Keys to the Game" a look at what the Bearcats must do to prevail during their next game. While it would be easy to just write some stuff that we feel are the "Keys" we always look for a special person tied to the Bearcats football program to help us with this piece. Last week we brought you the "Voice of the Cats" Dan Hoard, this week we bring you a former Bearcat who excelled during his playing days at Nippert.

Look at the Bearcats defensive records, and a name quickly jumps out when looking at career tackles. Karl Woods holds the distinction of being one of only two Bearcats to record over 400 tackles in his career. The former Bearcats Captain (1980) is this weeks "Keys to the Game" guest analysis.

1) Don't underestimate your opponent--EVER !!

WCU is a good football team with alot of depth that has enabled them to accomplish great things the past 2 seasons on both sides of
the ball. The Bearcats must dominate on Offense and score early and often!! WCU may be Div-I-AA, but they are talented. The Bearcats can not allow the Catamounts to gain ANY momentum at all ! Strike early and often !!!!

2) Defense wins games !!!
UC's defensive line has to control the action up-front and protect our young linebackers so they can make plays. WCU's premier running back, Darius Fudge was named Offensive Player of the week in the SoCon Conference last week with 133 yards on 13 carries. UC must contain Fudge and pressure QB Justin Clark , who likes to play catch with Jr. wide-out, J.C. Brown. Another key player to watch is sophomore kick return specialist, Mike Malone, who happens to be the SoCon track and field 100 meter record holder with a time of 10.45 sec. Damn, That's fast.

3) Mental mistakes must be eliminated !!

This is the type of game where if UC is not "into" this contest, UC becomes their toughest opponent to overcome Saturday night. Special teams, tackling to the turf, getting to all their blocking assignments, and
reading their keys correctly will be the ingredients for the Cats second victory !!

BCI NOTES: Karl did such a great job on this week's game I didn't see a need to add my two cents.

Bearcat Insider would like to thank Karl for taking the time and helping with this weeks "Keys to the Game".
