An Early Look at Miami

On Wednesday, September 28th, the Bearcats and RedHawks will battle for the 110th time. We have an early look at this years game.

The Miami game is over a week away, but it's not too soon to start thinking about the Redhawks.

-John Busing a senior linebacker and Brandon Murphy a sophomore running back received MAC East Division Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week honors. Busing recorded 11 tackles last Saturday against Kent State while Murphy ran for 172 yards on 31 carries.

-Miami returns 17 starters from last season. This is a veteran team with 19 seniors. All 19 seniors appear on the 2 deep depth chart with 15 of them starting.

-The Miami coaching staff is the polar opposite of its players in experience. Of the 9 assistant coaches only 3 have Division IA coaching experience outside Miami.

-Receiver Martin Nance has had three straight 100 yard receiving games this year. He got 115 yards against the Bearcats in 2003.

-The Miami offensive line averages over 6' 5" tall and 307 pounds.

-The Redhawks have only 5 turnovers after three games this season, 2 interceptions along with 3 fumbles. UC has 7 turnovers, 4 interceptions with 3 fumbles. Miami is +1 on turnovers and UC is -1.

-Kevin McCullough's older brother played football at Miami and his older sister played volleyball there.

-The Bearcat coaching staff has strong ties to Miami. Don Treadwell graduated from Miami in 1982 and coached there in 1992 and 1993. Pat Narduzzi coached at Miami in 1990 and 1991 as a grad assistant. In 1992 he became the receivers coach and returned in 2003 as their defensive coordinator. Mark Staten graduated from Miami in 2001 and served as a student assistant and graduate assistant.

-Is there a difference in offensive styles? After three games, Cincinnati runs 57% of the time while Miami passes 53% of the time. Miami did rush the ball 51 times out of 80 offensive plays against Kent State last week or their passing percentage would be much higher. UC's longest completion to a WR is 27 yards to Derick Ross. Miami has completions of 46 and 35 yards to Ryne Robinson and 38 yards to Martin Nance.

-Josh Betts (QB) has 15 games of 200 or more passing yards in his 16 starts.

-Miami is 19-6 at home since 2000. UC is 0-2 during that time but both losses were by a touchdown or less.

-Miami has been penalized 17 times this season; the Bearcats 20 times.

-Miami was leading the Golden Flashes by only a 10-3 score after three quarters last Saturday. The Redhawks had their best quarter of the year in the final period by putting 17 points on the scoreboard.

-Central Michigan's victory over Miami earlier this year broke the Redhawks' 10 game home win streak.

-The Miami/Central Michigan game served as the Redhawks' homecoming game this year but drew only 16,956 fans.

-There are 17 players from the Cincinnati area on Miami's roster.
