It's that time of year. College football coaches are working overtime in preparing their teams for their games, while spending select Friday nights on the road watching players their recruiting. While several prospects made the trip to Cincinnati for the Western Carolina game, we made several phone calls to players we've heard coaches made visits with.
In Huber Heights, Coach Harlon Barnett was seen at the Wayne / Springfield South game. While there Coach Barnett was able to watch several prospects the Bearcats have their eyes on.
Jeff Cleveland: SR, LB/TE 6'1 - 220, Cleveland hit the camp and combine season by storm this past summer. Posting 4.5 40's at the Akron Scout.com combine and also the Miami of Ohio Senior Camp, Cleveland got coaches looking at what skills he had to offer. What they found was a player who's never played the position he will in college. With a deep linebacker core the past few years (Marcus Freeman), Cleveland has played tight end and some defensive end for the Warriors. A great athlete with great desire and physical skills, Cleveland could also play running back if needed for Wayne. What will Cleveland need to do to earn a Bearcat offer? Cleveland must show he's got the flexibility desired by the Bearcats staff and that he's picking up the linebacker position quickly.
Donnie Evege: JR, DB/RB/WR 5'11 - 190, Evege also made a name for himself with a 4.31 40 time at Miami of Ohio camp. Playing in his first year at Wayne, Evege has seen the likes of Ohio State, Purdue and several others take notice. He's already been offered by Purdue and is getting tons of mail from all the Top 25 programs. Evege has speed to burn and will be looked at as a defensive back at the next level.
Alex Earley: SR, QB/S 6'1 - 195, Earley plays almost the whole game at quarterback. But the numbers he posted at the Scout.com Akron combine showed he's got the athletic ability to play safety at the college level. While holding out hope of earning his way as a QB, Earley could see several colleges take strong looks at him playing defense. Also a top baseball prospect, Early is a sleeper prospect at this time.
Lamar Mapp: SR, DE/DT 6'3 - 245, Mapp is one to keep an eye on. Played a good game against Wayne as Bearcat coaches watched. Showed well in camp and was thought to be close to an offer. Look for that offer to come soon if the Bearcats have interest in the South star.
While Coach Barnett was seen watching Mapp and Cleveland, Coach Dan Roushar was seen in Columbus watching standout offensive linemen Lee Tilley.
Lee Tilley: SR, OL 6'7 - 310, Tilley is a 4-star prospect by Scout.com and ranked as the #16 offensive linemen nationally. Having left Springfield South for Franklin Heights, Tilley is still on the Bearcats radar. While many felt he was ready to give Georgia a verbal. But that never happened. Many feel that Tilley is still looking hard at the Bearcats after having gone through the change of schools.
These are the players we know who saw Bearcat coaches come and watch them this past weekend. Were sure other members of the staff were out and about the local area watching players they have their eyes on.
