Much is going on around the campus of Cincinnati after the football team's big win over Syracuse. But while football is looking at the home stretch, many other sports are starting to get into the swing of things.
BIG EAST HONORS
With his fumble return for the game winning touchdown, linebacker Kevin McCullough earned Conference Player of the Week honors.
Not to be left out, senior punter Chet Ervin had his best game of the season and earned Special Teams Conference Player of the Week honors.
Adam Roberts also saw some love earning Big East Honor Roll honors for his play against the Orange.
Let's get the word out and see how many Bearcat fans we can get to attend the West Virginia game next week. This is a big game and one the Bearcats will have enough time to prepare and be ready to knock off the Big East top teams.
The more fans wearing red and black will help this team pull the upset of the year in the Big East.
One of the latest polls didn't give the Bearcats hoop program any votes. Did you expect anything else? Why should anyone expect anything from this team? Bob Huggins is gone and the swagger may have left with him. But don't count out these Cats just yet. There is senior leadership and a coach looking to prove he belongs in the "Big Time". I feel this is setting up in the Bearcats favor. So Big East teams better be on the lookout.
The Men's Basketball team will take the court on Thursday night at 7:00 PM for a game against Hillsdale. While it won't count in the standings, it will give many an idea of what to expect from Coach Kennedy and the style of play his team will have this year.
Keep an eye on Hillery Wilson. The sophomore from Hudson, Ohio won her second straight tournament and shot a school record round in the process with a 69. But while Wilson may be the star, the team won its second straight tournament.
IT'S BACK TWO
The Women Bearcats Hoop team will also be taking the floor this week. The team will take on OGBM Legends at Firth Third Arena on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. They will then take on Findlay next week before getting the season underway on the 19th of this month.
BOWL GAME & BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP
Ask any Bearcat football fan if they felt this year's team could earn a bowl berth or conference championship and you would have gotten a smile and laugh. In a season that's seen the Bearcats go up and down, Coach Dantonio has his team in position to earn a berth with two victories in the final three games of the season. Even if the Bearcats come up short fans should be excited about the future. Having been picked to finish last in the Big East, the Bearcats could see themselves as conference champions if they can win out and get a little help along the way. Every conference team has at least one loss except West Virginia. If the Bearcats take down the Mountaineers next week and run the table against USF and Rutgers the Bearcats could finish with a conference title and no worse then third in the conference.
