News and Notes for the West Virginia game that will be played at Nippert Stadium on Wednesday night.

-WVU will be the highest ranked team at Nippert since Wisconsin's #9 ranking in 1999. The Mountaineers were #16 going into game week and figure to move up a few slots in this week's polls.

-WVU's defense was ranked #9 nationally in total defense going into yesterday's games. The Mountaineer defense surrenders only 290 yards per game.

-The Bearcats are 3-1 in Nippert this year.

-UC will honor its 10 seniors prior to the game.

-Gino Guidugli will be the Bearcats' honorary captain. BCI has been told that Gino had a tryout with Tampa Bay a few weeks ago.

-Kevin McCullough is tied at #49 nationally in tackles for loss with 1.29 per game.

-Steve Eastlake will start his 33rd consecutive game Wednesday night.

-The UC/USF game on November 9 will be televised on ESPN Plus with Channel 38 showing the game locally. It will be the Big East Game of the Week and have a noon kickoff.

-Corey Smith continues to lead the Bearcats in tackles with 56. Haruki Nakamura is second on the team with 51.

-Jeremy Bolton is expected to make his second straight start at right tackle for the injured Digger Bujnoch.

-Of the seven defensive players on UC's depth chart listed at LE, NT and DT, all are freshmen except for sophomore Jon Newton.

-#62 for WVU is LaSalle grad Ryan Stancheck. Stancheck is expected to make his 5th straight start at LG. Stancheck recorded a pass reception on a tipped pass in the Louisville game.

-WVU recorded 7 sacks against U Conn last Wednesday.

-Top RB recruit Jason Gwaltney will not play against UC. Steve Slaton, WVU's other excellent freshman runner, is expected to play after an injury kept him out of the 2nd half of the U Conn game.

-Pat White (QB) will start, but Adam Bednarik will likely play too.

-Rich Rodriguez acknowledged both Bradley Glatthaar and Butler Benton this week. "They've got a pair of running backs that could play for anyone in this league."

-WVU is playing back-to-back Wednesday night games, and its players will miss significant time in the classroom, but university presidents don't feel a college playoff is warranted because of too much missed class time in December.

-ESPN2 will televise Wednesday's game. The announcers will be Dave Barnett, Craig James, and Holly Rowe.

-WVU averages 51 rushes and 18 passes per game.

-In the 2003 game between these two schools, Chet Ervin scored 9 of UC's 15 points with field goals of 37, 43, and 44 yards. Each team had 5 turnovers in the game.

-Cincinnati Bengal Chris Henry played for WVU last season.

-WVU has played 8 true freshmen this year.

-WVU has won its last 33 games when it scores 30 or more points.

-Wednesday's game will be broadcast by Sirius Radio but no station has been set as of this writing.
