Football Wives "Konnect" For Great Event

Connecting with more than just the fans of Bearcats football, players, coaches wives and children look to help a great cause.

With the holiday season fast approaching, the wives of the University of Cincinnati Football Coaches went to work connecting with the community of Cincinnati. While these women are behind the scenes during the football season, they have built a bond that carries out into the community to help enrich those they come in contact with. Saturday saw one such event involving Konnect, a program directed by Coach Harlon Barnett's wife Tammy.

As the first Konnect Holiday Talent Extravaganza started, you could see the excitement and nerves of those who had prepared to share their talents. Masters of ceremonies Lola Treadwell opened the show by introducing Bearcats Head Coach Mark Dantonio. Coach Dantonio, who was joined by his wife Becky, spoke about the commitment the wives have given to project Konnect, and to pledge in helping the program reach their goal. He soon turned things over and with the help of several members of the Bearcat family; the talent show portion of the event began.

Jane Enos calls out numbers during one of the many drawings during the day.

Bearcats defensive tackle Charles Harbin took the stage and showed his listed hobby in the Bearcats Media Guide is more of a passion. With grace, Harbin used his fingers to enlighten the crowd with his playing of the piano. Other Bearcats would follow, but none would come close to having the crowd listening to every key struck.

The next Bearcat to open some ears was Brad Bury. The Marion, Ohio native left Coach Dantonio and his fellow teammates speechless with his guitar solo. But while both sides of the football were represented, quarterbacks looked to steal the show.

Craig Carey and Dustin Grutza show their talents.

Dustin Grutza and Craig Carey teamed up and performed a great rendition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer that included getting the crowd singing along. But while these two signal callers showed the poise of quarterbacks under the rush of a 300 pound defender, junior quarterback Nick Davila (sporting a new hair cut) got the crowd on their feet and dancing as he brought his California flair in teaching them how to do the Macarena Dance the proper way. Before he finished Nick had teammates and others in the show on stage dancing away.

But while players performed their talents, several children of the coaching staff also performed for the audience. Coach Dantonio and Narduzzi saw their daughters Lauren and Kristen Dantonio and Christina and Arianna Narduzzi play the piano. Coach Treadwell's son Spencer read a poem, while Coach Roushar had two of his children, Marissa and Mallory be joined by friends to perform a dance routine. Closing out the show was Lola Treadwell's mother, who despite a sore throat, showed her great singing voice.

The event attracted a nice crowd and a great start for future Konnect events with the support of the Bearcats wives. Door prizes were given away and refreshments (home made by the wives) were served afterwards. In attendance and showing their support, was Jenifer and Meredith Thomas. They are the wife and daughter of new Cincinnati Director of Athletics Mike Thomas.

All who was part of the days events enjoyed a great time

But while everyone had a great time, the goal of the day was to help send children to summer camp. Konnect (Connecting Our Neighborhoods & Nurturing Every Child Together) is a non-profit organization, headed by Mrs. Tammy Barnett. It's goal is to provide a One-to-One mentoring program for children ages 4-14 years old living in northern Hamilton County communities who have an incarcerated parent in a state of federal prison.
