Bearcats Earn Championship

Bearcats win Las Vegas Holiday Classic Championship over SEC foe LSU with some clutch shooting by James White.

In a season of discontent from many University of Cincinnati Basketball fans, the team many swore off for the season has grown and shown their moxie to rise and be heard by the basketball nation.

With national media taking notice of the job Coach Andy Kennedy and freshman sensation Devan Downey have done, the Bearcats looked to cap off their trip to Sin City with a Championship in the Las Vegas Holiday Classic over LSU in a high school gym without television coverage.

With diehard Bearcat fans listening to the radio broadcast or following the game through STATS, the Bearcats came away for a hard fought battle with a 75-72 victory over the Tigers. While Downey was held in check with only 11 points, the big battle of the game came from Glenn "Big Baby" Davis and Bearcat senior Eric Hicks. The big men didn't let anyone down as both players would score 21 points on the night with Hicks going 9-13 from the field.

But while Hicks enjoyed a big night, it was the inconsistent play of Armein Kirkland down the stretch that allowed the Tigers to stay within reach. Kirkland, who would miss two shots down the stretch, was saved by the shooting of James White who would go 5 of 9 for 19 points with key points coming in the closing minutes of the game.

LSU would place four players in double figures while the Bearcats matched the total with four of their own. The Bearcats shot 9-19 (.474%) from three point land and 28-60 (.467%) from the field in the victory.

Bearcat Insider player of the Game honors go to two Bearcats. Senior's Eric Hicks and James White will share in our Player of the Game honors.
