The Latest On Devan Downey

Bearcat Insider spoke with Dave Telep late on Saturday night from the Final Four about his report on Devan Downey getting his release from the University of Cincinnati.

During the past few days, Scout.com national basketball analyst Dave Telep started hearing talk of Cincinnati freshman point guard Devan Downey looking to explore options outside of the Bearcats program.

By posting a "Hot News" on April Fools Day, Telep led the Bearcat faithful down a road many hoped would be a bad joke. But instead of letting Bearcat fans in on this joke, Telep keep his word and those of his sources about Downey looking to leave the Bearcats program and take his outstanding talents elsewhere.

Downey, who told the media just days before about his desire to stay at UC and fulfill his promise, is said to have received his release on Thursday morning of this past week.

Bearcat Insider spoke with Dave Telep Saturday night from the Final Four and got the latest news.

"I've spoken with Devan's AAU coach tonight about the release. He said Devan was granted his release on Thursday morning."

Were will Downey end up? Telep continued, "I fully expect Mick Cronin to work hard in keeping Devan part of the Cincinnati program, but at this time I expect programs like Wake Forest and Mississippi to potentially be programs under consideration."

While Telep hasn't spoken with Downey, he's positive of the release and also stated their may be some programs off limits as Downey looks for a new program to play in.

"I'm hoping to have a chance to speak with Devan on Sunday afternoon for the latest information." stated Telep.

Two other players, Cedric McGowan and Abdul Herrera have also been talked about leaving the program, had Telep heard anything else about the two? "Not at this time, there has been some talk about Herrera leaving but nothing concrete."

While April Fools Day is over, Bearcat fans must now gear themselves for life without the lightning in a bottle point guard.

Bearcat Insider will continue to work on this story until all the facts are known.
