Assistant Coach - UPDATE 3:45 P.M. Thursday

Bearcat Insider has learned the Bearcats next assistant coach to join Coach Mick Cronin's staff has been set.

The search for the University of Cincinnati's next assistant basketball coach is almost over. Bearcat Insider has learned from several sources Darren Savino will be named to head coach Mick Cronin's staff possible as early as the end of this week.

Savino, part of Cronin's staff at Murray State, was being considered to replace the Bearcats new head coach at Murray State. It's believed Savino has learned he will not be hired by the Racers and will now join Cronin at Cincinnati.

Bearcat Insider has learned Savino was on the Cincinnati campus Tuesday and believes he will be named to Cronin's staff very soon.

Bearcat Insider will be checking into any news on this hire.

As we reported last night, University of Cincinnati Men's Basketball coach Mick Cronin has hired Darren Savino, who served as assistant basketball coach at Murray State under Coach Cronin.

As per release by the University of Cincinnati, Coach Cronin had the following to say about his newest staff member. "I have known Darren for a long time, and worked with him the past two years at Murray State, and I know he is a great addition to our staff," stated Cronin. "He knows basketball inside and out and he brings tireless effort and energy to recruiting."
