With the help of its many sources, Bearcat Insider was the first to announce Devan Downey would be making his decision to leave the Bearcats basketball program. Now we go out on a limb on two more Bearcats who've seen rumors persist on their futures.
The senior forward has only one year of eligibility left in his college career. He knows he'll be the leader of a young Bearcats team and be in a position to excel and take his game to another level. The interest of programs looking for players with one year left of playing eligibility is not high. Since Mick Cronin and his staff have been hired they've worked hard in going through the recruiting process with McGowan, those efforts look to have paid off as several sources have told Bearcat Insider McGowan has expressed his interest to stay and finish his career as a Bearcat. If true this is a great boost for Coach Cronin and his staff as they head into signing day.
While Frank Martin may have been one of the main reasons for Herrera becoming a Bearcat, it doesn't seem his departure has interfered with Herrera's recruitment since Mick Cronin and his staff took over the Bearcats program. While no one can be sure how long Herrera will stay a Bearcat, his missing this past season may have helped his decision in looking to continue his Bearcat career. Several sources have told Bearcat Insider they believe Herrera will stay a Bearcat under the new staff.
While we never really know the actions a player may take under these circumstances, it's easy to understand why young men must think about their future. While Bearcat Insider was sad to see Devan Downey leave the program it's just as excited to learn there's a great chance both Cedric McGowan and Abdul Herrera will continue their careers as Bearcats.
