Veteran Division I football coach, Ron McBride, liked what he saw in Sean Patterson, and Patterson liked what he saw of Weber State. After giving his verbal commitment last week, Patterson welcomed a home visit from Weber State quarterbacks coach, Kevin McGiven, this week.
McBride found a diamond in California a few years ago when he successfully recruited Alex Smith to Utah. McBride and the Wildcats are hoping to have similar success with Patterson at the helm. Sean will be heading to Ogden in June to better challenge for the starting quarterback job next season.
Sean Patterson Sr. was impressed with Coach McBride and his staff. "The one thing that made them different was they saw the film and trusted their instincts. They also seemed to care about Sean as a person. Coach Mc called from Hawaii last night to make sure everything was okay and see if my wife had any questions since she didn't go on the official visit. They also came all the way out here to see where Sean lived, and they didn't have to do that since Sean had already verballed. They were treating him like a person, not just a football player."
Weber State will open the 2007 season at Boise State.
Three St. John's Jesuit players are expected to sign their football letters-of-intent at the high school next Wednesday. Patterson with Weber State; UC recruit Ben Burkett (OL) with Northwestern; and Jalil Carter (WR/CB) with Akron.
