Observations From UC-ND Game

Sunday saw much activity in and around the campus of the University of Cincinnati. Doug Goodwin gives a few thoughts on todays events.

The continued growth of Deonta Vaughn at point guard gives legitimate hope that this years team results will not be repeated. Deonta will need to sharpen his defensive skills over the summer but on offense he is emerging as the go to guy. Put him on the floor with Mike Williams and Adam Hrycaniuk next season and we should see a much better record. Also, for all the doom and gloom that get's rammed down our throats from the media, the crowds are still very vocal and into the games.

The crowd was really into the football team at half time, the video of Brent Celek's touchdown catch & run down the sideline against Rutgers played on the video board. Coach Kelly once again proved he can motivate his audience.

Today was Super Junior day for the football recruiting class of 2008. More details to come later but 30 or so elite recruits saw a full house, a loud student section, and a great half time celebration for our football team. One note the recruits might want to keep in mind, every recruiting class that this staff has ever recruited has won at least one championship in their 4 years.

I was sitting behind the visitor's bench amongst several Notre Dame Fans, whether you like the Irish or not their fans are a classy group.

Final observation; There is no question that this basketball season has been difficult for everyone, coaches, players, and fans. The throw back jersey's were great and came at a perfect time, it gave a chance to pause and think about the past achievements of this program and how much success has happened right here. National titles, Final Four's, conference championships, and All-American player's is what defines Bearcat basketball, it is who we are. We have been down before, but we will come back. Soon this season will fade away and we will start our climb back to the top of college basketball. Before long we will once again be UC, The University of Champions!
