Bearcats Pick Up Prize Recruit

Bearcats get the verbal of top wing player after much hard work.

Bearcat Insider has worked the past couple of weeks to update our members on the status of strong forward Alvin Mitchell of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale Florida. But as recruiting heated up the phone number we had was disconnected and our efforts never got completed. Today, word started spreading the Bearcats had picked up the 6-foot-4, 205 pound wing player and we worked to confirm his status.

BCI went to basketball expert Dave Telep for the official word and a look at what Mick Cronin got in getting Mitchell's pledge.

"Alvin's one of those guys who is athletically and physically ready to go. I think he brings the ability to get all the way to the rim and mixes it with some outside flavor. He's a very talented wing kid and a nice pickup for Mick Cronin. At this stage in the game, Alvin Mitchell was one of the top remaining wing players on the board so that works well for Cincinnati." Telep said.

Mitchell who visited the Bearcats back in January spoke with BCI after his visit and came away impressed with what he saw. Talk had started the Bearcats may have even received his verbal a few weeks ago but Mitchell was silent. When breaking down his game the 4-star #26 ranked strong forward by shows his strengths to be his shooting from 3-point land and his physical size. He's considered to have great potential to become a top college player needing to work on his defensive presence and his ability to finish.

Mitchell held official offers from Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, St. Johns and Missouri to go with his Cincinnati one.

Bearcat Insider will work to contact Alvin on Thursday to get the full report.
