This Sunshine State safety received a scholarship offer from Cincinnati this week, and Bearcat Insider has the latest on his recruitment.
The Cincinnati football staff is like many other
college staffs. It knows Florida is a state loaded
with Division IA football talent.
Because of that, some of the Bearcat coaches attended Florida high school
spring games to get a closer look at the seniors-to-be. Chuck Grace from Tampa's Hillsborough Senior High
School apparently caught the eye of UC recruiting
coordinator Mike Elston because Grace received a written scholarship offer in
the mail this week from the Bearcats.
Bearcat Insider spoke with Grace a couple days after he received the UC
offer. The 5' 10"/175 pounder said
he shouldn't be judged by his size.
"I guess they liked how I hit people." Chuck reports 4.5 forty-yard-dash
Because of NCAA rules restricting coaches' contact with recruits off
campus, Grace says he hasn't had much dialogue with the Cincinnati staff. "Coach Elston came down in May and saw
me in a spring practice and got my highlight tape. I haven't really talked to him except
for one call, but I just received an offer a couple days ago."
Right now Cincinnati is the only Division IA school to
make an offer, but Grace has been getting interest from Division IAA
schools. "I have an offer from
and Georgia Southern and FIU have said they're going to offer." Chuck says the hometown school has also
shown interest. "South Florida has recruited me, but I haven't received an
A trip to Cincinnati is a possibility, but nothing is
planned at this time. "I've never
been there before and don't know anything about it. When I talked to Coach Elston, he said
most visits are in December." Chuck
said he's not afraid of playing in a colder climate. He just wants to go to a school where
everything feels right.
Grace didn't think he was the only one on his team to get an offer from
the Bearcats this week. "I know
they're interested in Marc Thomas and Andreas Ashwood too. I think all of us got an offer." Thomas is a 6' 3"/200 pound middle
linebacker who led the Terriers in tackles last season. Ashwood is a 6'/195 pound cornerback.
Chuck described himself. "I
don't say too much. I'm always
smiling. I stay out of
trouble." Chuck has a 2.4 GPA and
got a 19 on his first attempt at the ACT.
School is a Division 4A school (6A is the largest
division). Because of its size,
some of the players have to play both ways, and Chuck was also used as a
receiver in the spring.
Bearcat Insider will check back with Chuck later in the
