Scouting Talent at Miami Ohio 7-on-7

Miami University was the place for 7 on 7 action on Saturday. I decided to roam the fields and look for a few hidden gems as well as players that the Bearcats had their eye on.

Action was non-stop on a clear sunny day with multiple fields and Yager Stadium in use.  Varsity and Reserve teams from across several states were in attendance.  It was a football fans paradise as several fields were in view of each other and like a man with a television remote in his hand I was pulled to see all the teams in action on the next field and then the next one.  But one thing was for sure, all the action was great!

The first scrimmage I settled down to watch featured Beavercreek and Valley View.  Three players caught my eye during the scrimmage.

For Valley View Junior QB Luke Donson caught my eye.  Luke stands 6' 3" and weighs 190 lbs.  Luke camped at the Purdue QB camp this summer and should draw interest during the season.

Beavercreek SR QB/DB Zach Domicone (6' 3", 205 lbs) has an offer from Air Force and is also getting a lot of interest from several schools including CMU, Akron, EMU and Northwestern.  Several programs have told him that they are waiting tape from his senior season before offering him.  He is being recruited primarily as a DB.  Beavercreek SR LB Jeremy LaVoie (6'1", 223 lbs) is drawing interest from Ohio University and has also heard from Holy Cross and LeHigh.

I decided next to head to Yager Stadium and catch the scrimmage between Middletown (with several players the Bearcats are recruiting) and Dayton Chaminade Julienne (which UC recruited very successfully last year).  One of the teams playing prior to the Middletown – CJ scrimmage was La Noirix from Kalamazoo, MI.  La Noirix SR WR/S Derrick Scott (6' 3". 192 lbs) really stood out with his play on both sides of the ball.

On the opposite end of the field from the Middletown – CJ scrimmage was Milford and Mount Healthy.  SR WR/DE Derek Mincy (6' 3", 205 lbs) is hearing from Cincinnati as well as MSU, Indiana and MAC schools Akron, BGSU and EMU.

I was able to talk to Middletown Head Coach Ron Johnson prior to the scrimmage and he shared with me the names of players Cincinnati is currently looking at from the Middies program.  Linemen Chip Robinson (6' 7", 355 lbs) and Blaec Walker (6' 5", 315 lbs) are both hearing from the Bearcats.  Chip and Blaec were at Miami for a lineman camp they had running concurrently with the 7 on 7.

Other Middies players featured at the 7 on 7 that Cincinnati is currently showing interest in are WR Phillip Burnett (6' 2", 180 lbs) and LB Dajouir Cornnielies (6' 0", 220 lbs).  In addition to Cincinnati Phillip Burnett is hearing from Louisville, MSU and Indiana.  Dajouir Cornnielies is hearing from Pittsburgh, MSU and several MAC schools in addition to the Bearcats.
