BCI Quick Hit With Chris Jurek

With all of the talk recently about the battle at Quarterback another position that is up for grabs is Center.

Entering the past few seasons the center position has been an unknown and somewhat of a revolving door. Bearcat Insider recently caught up with one of the front runners to take over the Center position, Chris Jurek.

Chris Jurek is the only true Center on the UC roster. He came to Cincinnati as part of the signing group in 2005 from Southfield-Lathrup HS near Detroit. During his time here the redshirt sophomore was somewhat lost in the shuffle with the old staff. Jurek wasn't recruited by his old position coach Dan Roushar and was considered undersized for what they were looking for along the offensive line.

With the new staff though Chris has found opportunity. "This staff isn't so much concerned about size, they want to see you make a block and sustain it". Chris went on to say; "The key with the current staff is consistency" They are looking for a center who can make good snaps every play.

Chris has also done his work in the weight room with Coach Longo, getting stronger and putting on muscle. He currently tips the scale at a lean 276lbs.

While Chris has attributed his rise on the depth chart to hard work he was quick to point out that his teammates battling for the Center spot have all put their work in and created great competition. Along with Chris others who have are vying for playing time are Jason Kelce and Chris Flores.

Bearcat Insider will continue to watch the center spot throughout camp and provide updates.
