The Bearcats hope to extend their winning streak to five as they play the San Diego State Aztecs at 10:00 tonight in QualComm Stadium. The game will be televised on the VERSUS channel.

Here at Bearcat Insider, we usually formally announce the importance of each Bearcat game with an "It's Game Day!" post on the message board.  We've changed the tradition slightly by incorporating it into a short game day story.

After last week's win against Division I AA Portland State, Chuck Long's Aztecs will be trying to win two games in a row for the first time since November of 2005.  In Long's first year at the helm, the Aztecs recorded a 3-9 record, but the man that finished second to Bo Jackson in the closest Heisman balloting ever returns one of the program's best quarterbacks in 6' 6" Kevin O'Connell.  The three time captain entered the season first in school history for career rushing yards by a quarterback and second in career rushing touchdowns by a QB.  The big man is also a capable thrower as witnessed by his being ranked in the school's top ten in career passing yards.

Stopping the dual threat of O'Connell will be the goal of Cincinnati's #28 ranked defense, and that job won't be easy as the Aztec offense comes into the contest with a #35 national ranking themselves.  O'Connell has been completing 61% of his throws and is second on the team in rushing with 116 yards in three games.

It's when the Bearcats go on offense that this game becomes a statistical mismatch.  The Aztec defense is rated #117 out of 119 Division IA teams while Cincinnati's offense is #43.  San Diego State returned only four starters from its 2006 defensive unit that ranked a below average #73 in the country, and this year's crew is giving up a mind boggling 530 yards per game.  Even a 1-3 Portland State squad gouged the Aztec defense for 458 total yards, 445 of which came through the air.  Whoever runs the show for the Bearcats should get plenty of time to throw as the Aztecs have recorded only four sacks this year.

The biggest question regarding this game for Cincinnati is how the Bearcats will adjust to the three hour time change and 10 o'clock eastern time kickoff.

Now it time for our traditional post: IT'S GAME DAY, BEARCAT FANS!!!  Time for Bearcat fans to strap on the helmet, apply the eyeblack and DEFINITELY wear that cup because IT'S GAME DAY, and ANYTHING can happen on GAME DAY!!!
