The new year got started off on the right foot as the University of Cincinnati football program earned its first win under newly named head coach Brian Kelly in the inaugural International Bowl held in the Rogers Center in Toronto Canada.

Brian Kelly who helped Central Michigan to a bowl game took over the Bearcats football program just a few weeks prior to the International Bowl for the departed Mark Dantonio didn't make too many changes in the days leading up to the game. While he added a few wrinkles, the new Bearcats head coach knew he had a team capable of winning their bowl game and used the prep time to see what he would have returning in the spring.

In a hard fought battle the Bearcats held on and defeated the Broncos 27-24 in front of 26,717 fans with a large amount of Bearcat fans in attendance.

Dominick Goodman was the game's MVP with 109 receiving yards on seven catches and 2 touchdowns while Dominic Ross lead the Bearcats defense with 11 tackles and John Bowie registered a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The win moved Cincinnati to 5-4 all-time in bowl games and gave the team an overall record of 8-5 for the 2006 season.
