Vaughn Named to Big East Honor Roll

Deonta Vaughn picks up Big East honors for his play against Louisville and St. John's.

Sophomore guard Deonta Vaughn (Indianapolis, IN/Arlington), was named to the BIG EAST Conference's Weekly Honor Roll for the Week of Dec. 31-Jan. 6, the league office announced today (Jan. 7).

Vaughn is the first Cincinnati player to earn a spot on the list this season after scoring a combined 37 points in two BIG EAST road games at Louisville and St. John's. Vaughn started the New Year scoring 13 points in UC's 58-57 win at Louisville. He keyed the Bearcats down the stretch, netting 11 of his 13 points in the final nine minutes of the game.

Against St. John's, Vaughn scored a game-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Vaughn tried to bring the Bearcats back several times in the second half as he scored 19 points in the final period.

He shot and astounding 54.2 percent for the week, including 5-for-13 from behind the 3-point line, and added in five assists and three steals.

Vaughn and the Bearcats return home Wednesday night to kick off a two-game home stand, welcoming in Syracuse on Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. and Villanova on Jan. 12 for a 7 p.m. tip.
