"The Shoe Is Back"

Mick Cronin's crew orchestrated an impressive win over a ranked-team Saturday night that brought over 10,000 people to their feet. But will it last?

"The Shoe Is Back." Those were the words I heard from a very wise man Saturday night. And he was right. I haven't heard the place that loud since they were chanting "Hire Andy" a couple years ago. Well, maybe last year's Crosstown Shootout.

The point is, a receptive crowd and a home court advantage has not regularly greeted the University of Cincinnati men's basketball team in quite a while. But if the upset over Villanova, and the energy the fans had during the course of that game, is any indication we may see the crowd returning to the Shoemaker Center.

Personally, I'm not quite ready to call it a comeback yet. Almost anything can happen once. But can the large attendance become the trend it once was during Bob Huggins's reign? This coming Saturday night's game against Pitt should be interesting. Will the Villanova upset spur the fans back to Clifton for tip-off? Or will the stench of the the second half of Tuesday night's Notre Dame game keep people skeptical and off the bandwagon a little longer.
