Could Another Woods Be A Bearcat?

With the weather being so bad out the OHSAA had to postpone the Girls Basketball State Championship games until Monday. In the Division Two game a player with a last name Bearcat fans know well is a main player already holding a scholarship offer.

Bearcat fans got to know D.J. Woods of Strongsville High School very well during the football recruiting process. But how many knew about his younger sister Mylan? While little sister may not be as well known, she is a name for women hoop fans to keep an eye on.

Mylan Woods is a 5-foot-10 sophomore for Hathaway Brown High School an all-girls school in Shaker Heights, Ohio. And while Woods may not be as well known of her brother she is looking to do something her brother couldn't do. Win a state championship…

While Mylan watched her brother D.J. gather much attention during the recruiting process she already possess an offer from Nebraska and has several other programs taking notice.

"Mylan earned Second Team All-Ohio as a freshman and then First Team All-Ohio this year. She averages about 13-points a game during the season but is up to about 20-points during the tournament," said her proud father Derrick Woods. "She's been offered by Nebraska and is getting a lot of attention from Maryland, Florida State and Miami Florida and a lot of Big Ten schools right now."

While brother and sister are very close Mr. Woods said that hasn't stopped his daughter from teasing her older brother.

"Mylan has told D.J. he may have been a "Big Time" football star, but that she's playing for a state championship."

Could Mylan look to follow her older brother to Cincinnati?

"Right now it's too early to really say. I know in some ways that would be great but I also know that Mylan may not want to have her brother over her shoulder. It's too early to say since Mylan has so much more to go, but we know a few people in the Cincinnati program and you just never know because she's going to have a chance to spend a lot of time down there watching her brother."

Mylan Brown will look to help her Hathaway Brown High School team defeat Kettering Alter in the championship game on Monday at 10:45 a.m. in Value City Arena.
