7-on-7 Battle With Bearcat Ties

Day two of the University of Cincinnati 7-on-7 challenge would find several new teams take the field and a few holdovers from the previous day. But in the end it was two programs with current Bearcats as alumni battling for the championship.

After going through a grueling day with high temperatures on the Nippert Stadium turn, the battle to claim a 7-on-7 championship came down to hometown favorite Colerain who has a former head coach and several players on the roster, against University of Detroit Jesuit with current Bearcats defensive end Connor Barwin and incoming freshman George Winn on the roster.

As Bearcats defensive back coach Kerry Combs prepared to watch, Barwin and Bearcats defensive tackle Terrill Byrd came from finishing a workout the two didn’t know their former high school teams were about to battle.  Barwin, wearing a Detroit Jesuit t-shirt soon heard some barbs from his defensive teammate.  The pair stayed and watched the event unfold with one of them getting ready to hand over the championship trophy.

In the end it was Byrd and Colerain holding the trophy with a shouting Andre Revels giving his support from a seat in the stadium.

But what may have been the biggest surprise of the day was Colerain who runs one of the top running attacks from the option winning a passing tournament.  The Cardinals are young and have a strong group of defensive players that played a major role in the teams success during the day.

Here is a photo of the winners after getting their trophy.
