Alex Smith knows the importance of picking up a scholarship offer early. In fact it caused him and go out and take in a movie with his mother.
"Cincinnati offered me a few days ago," Smith told BearcatInsider.com on Sunday. "My coach told me to get ahold of Coach Coombs and when I called he asked for my mother and I to come to campus and visit with Coach Kelly. When we got there Coach Kelly told me they were offering me a scholarship.
For Smith the offer showed him he's got the skills to play at the next level.
"I'm very excited about this offer and learning more about the Bearcats. They are a great program that any player would be happy to earn an offer from.
While Smith isn't ready to pull the plug, he knows being able to stay close to home is an advantage he may not be able to pass up.
"Cincinnati would allow for my mother and family to see me play. So that really has my interest.
We'll talk more with Smith in the coming days about his Cincinnati offer.
