Cornett Only Knows One Way

For Torry Cornett the road to the University of Cincinnati took a detour as he tried basketball at the college level at Prairie View A&M. Now as he enters his senior season he only knows one way to get things down. Hard Work!

Built with a solid frame at 6-foot-2, 235-pounds Torry Cornett knew his love was football and once he returned to his Ohio roots things have continued to grow for the Bearcats senior linebacker.

"It feels good to come out here and compete with my teammates. I love these guys and I've been with them four years strong and I'm making my family and parents proud. I thank God everyday for allowing me this chance to play football."

Cornett knew coming into the Bearcats program under Mark Dantonio what would be ahead of him.

"Our football team is built on hard work and dedication and we just try to produce as a team by working hard every day."

But with a coaching change the Columbus Independence product didn't know what would be ahead. Not only did the staff change the strength program Cornett was comfortable with also changed as Coach Longo entered the picture.

"I bought in. When the new coaches came in one of my teammates (Mike Daniels) told me to buy into the new coaches system. Coach Longo makes sure we're getting the right workout and the proof is in the product as my body fat is down and everything he's told me I've bought into and has worked for me."

Cornett may be known for his aggressive play on the field. But off the field he feels goals aren't just numbers that end up on a stat sheet.

"I set spiritual and personal goals everyday I get up. I'm a firm believer in Jesus Christ and God as being my personal savior. I also have goals to come out here and work hard every day."

When Torry Cornett first came to the University of Cincinnati he knew things were moving in a different direction. The Bearcats football program was on the rise and with the hiring of Brian Kelly the growth of the program has reached an all-time high.

"There has been a lot of change here. But one thing that hasn't changed is that we'll continue to work hard here because hard work is the only way to reach Big East and BCS Championships."

After working hard the previous three years Torry Cornett has continued to climb the Bearcats depth chart. Number 49 is sure to have his share of big plays this fall as he closes out his career in a Bearcats uniform.
