Bearcat basketball fans as well as junior guard Deonta Vaughn were excited about what freshman Cashmere Wright brought to the team. As a member of Mick Cronin's highly-touted recruiting class, Wright was to help give Vaughn time at the two spot and also a chance to catch his breath.
However, those plans have now changed as the University of Cincinnati has officially announced that Wright will miss the 2008-09 season with a torn ACL to his left knee.
Coach Cronin had the following to say in the press release.
"We feel terrible for Cashmere as he was looking forward to the season as all young players do. Obviously he was a big part of our plans this year so we are going to have to make some changes. I want our fans to know that although we have had some setbacks, we are on the right track and our kids are working very hard. Our best days are ahead of us and we can't wait to get started this year."
For Cronin this means he'll have to look to Vaughn to carry the load as the two remaining guards (Larry Davis and Dion Dixon) are more shooting guards.
