One-on-One Audio With Lamonte Nelms

The skinny shy kid who first walked through the doors at the University of Cincinnati is gone. In his place is a man looking to live out his dreams. We spoke One-on-One with Lamonte Nelms.

The first time I ever spoke with Lamonte Nelms I had to push him to get any answers to my questions. Nelms had just finished his junior year in high school and one of his teammates, Charlie Wanyek told me he was a great athlete not getting a lot of talk.

At the time Lamonte was a safety and wide receiver at Ravenna High School. But soon colleges started to show interest in Lamonte.

Despite having others ranked ahead of him, Lamonte went about his business and when all was said and done I'd placed him on my All-Ohio Defensive Team.

While I felt Nelms would grow into a linebacker, I never expected to see him put on the size to place his hand down and rush off the edge. He has and in doing so has given the Bearcats another player with speed off the edge to cause problems for offenses.

I sat down with Lamonte this week and talk about several subjects in this special audio One-on-One.
