Offensive Lineman Kevin Schloemer Update

One week ago West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West head coach Larry Cox said he'd be very surprised if Cincinnati didn't offer offensive lineman Kevin Schloemer a scholarship soon. On Wednesday night Schloemer made a visit to a Cincinnati Junior Day. We get the latest.

"I liked it a lot," Kevin Schloemer told Bearcat Insider on Wednesday night just after leaving the Cincinnati campus. "It was very nice and I liked it a lot more than I liked Indiana. I really liked the coaches and really liked Coach Quinn and could see myself playing for him at Cincinnati."

While Cincinnati is the latest to offer the 6-foot-7, 275-pound Schloemer a scholarship he knows they won't be his last.

"I've been offered by North Carolina State, Indiana and Purdue has given me a verbal offer."

But the Bearcats offer is one Schloemer has been thinking about for some time.

"I was blown away by Cincinnati. I've been thinking about UC a lot and was surprised by the offer tonight. I just went to the Junior Day wanting to get a closer look and the next thing I know is I'm being asked to go to the seventh floor and into Coach Kelly's office. Coach Kelly offered me himself and that really impressed me."

With the offer in hand Schloemer knows there are a lot of advantages to being a "Hometown Bearcat" with the program seeing so much success.

"I really like the idea of being so close to home. The campus is great and I really didn't expect to see how great the dorms were. The facilities are great and I really liked how I got along with Coach Longo the strength coach."

Another thing that has Schloemer having high interest in Cincinnati is the head coach himself.

"Coach Kelly is a respectable guy who really knows his stuff. He makes sure you know it's his way or the highway and I really respect and I'm use to it being that way. He reminds me a lot of Coach (Larry) Cox and that is something I feel comfortable with."

Having already made a visit to Indiana and now Cincinnati are there more visits on the way?

"I've been to IU and now UC. I've not had a chance to visit Purdue or North Carolina State at this time but hope to do so in the coming months."

Is there a game plan in place to make a commitment?

"I've been thinking I would like to make a commitment prior to the start of my senior season as I would like to get it out of the way and enjoy my senior year."

From the way Kevin spoke about his Cincinnati visit the Bearcats could be considered an early favorite to earn his commitment. Bearcat Insider will continue to follow Kevin during the recruiting process until he makes his college choice.
