New Player Spotlight Brent Black

One of the main questions asked by fans is how new players are doing. While these newest Bearcats are restricted from talking with members of the media, we can breakdown how they look and what should be expected out of them in the future.

#42 Brent Black
West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West
HT: 6-1
WT: 194

How Black Came To UC

Brent Black has taken the long road to the University of Cincinnati. Black, who came to Southwest Ohio from Texas was a basketball player that Lakota West football coach Larry Cox talked into playing football as a senior.

That first year Black showed his raw athletic ability and signed with NAIA Bethel College (Tennessee) before finding the town was just way too small for a kid use to the city.

Having transferred to Cincinnati, Black is a walk-on football player that has a lot of skills and the physical frame any coach dream about working with.

So Far This Spring

With a great physical build, Brent Black sticks out whey you scan the field of players. Built more like a safety or linebacker, Black has great raw skills but will need work if he's going to transfer his raw ability into a solid college football player.

If Black is a project he's the type of project you hope works out because he shows a lot of pure athletic ability. Hope would be he's capable of earning special teams play and uses this spring to get back into a football mode and pick up the tools needed to be a high level defensive back.

Strength: Pure Athlete
Weakness: Football Knowledge and Skills
