Dual Position Quarterbacks Take Center Stage

If you're looking for prospects that give you options then these three quarterbacks are what you're looking for. What three stood out in Day One of Bearcats Camp?

Brian Kelly has always been one to recruit athletes capable of playing multiple positions. On Sunday three quarterbacks with the abilities to play other positions enjoyed good days in front of the Bearcats coaches.

Alex Zordich (Youngstown/Ohio/Cardinal Mooney), Derek Roback (Waverly/Ohio) and Verlon Reed (Columbus/Ohio/Marion-Franklin) all showed enough abilities to earn Bearcat offers.

While each came as quarterbacks their future could also be at different positions. What made each of these prospects standout? We look at each.

Verlon Reed

Reed is first a foremost an athlete with great speed. He throws a good ball but may not have enough arm for Brian Kelly's system. But with legit 4.5 forty speed Reed is a player that could be moved to wide receiver as he stands about 6-foot-2. This is not the first time the Bearcats staff has seen Reed as his high school team took part in last summers 7-on-7.

Derek Roback

Derek also has a nice arm and is a very smart player. The first time I saw Roback was when he was entering his sophomore season and he impressed with his abilities to catch the ball and also defend. Since then he's continued to grow and moved to quarterback. While listed a quarterback has enough skills to fight for the position but should see a move to defense as a linebacker.

Alex Zordich

If you think you've heard the name before there is a good chance you have. Alex is the son of former Penn State and Philadelphia Eagle star Michael Zordich. Alex also has an older brother Mike who is at Penn State now. But Alex is a good prospect as well and on this day showed as good of an arm as Roback and Reed. Like the others Zordich is a very good athlete capable of playing another position and being a safe offer. Zordich projects like Roback to defense as a linebacker as he stands about 6-foot-3.

While all three are solid options they may not be the quarterback Kelly and his staff is looking for. More quarterbacks will be in camp this week and with each passing day finding one capable of running the Bearcats offensive attack is a must.
