Final Time In Nippert Chris Jurek

Friday's game against Illinois was the final time the senior members of the 2009 University of Cincinnati football team took to the Nippert Stadium turf. We take a short look back at each of them and now look at Chris Jurek.

Class of 2005

Offensive linemen never get their just dues and Chris Jurek fully understood this when he became a Bearcat. One of the least talked about players over the past two years has been one of the most important as every offensive play starts with the Michigan native.

When we talk about a player earning his way Jurek is a great example of getting the most out of your career. While the Bearcats have a solid player waiting in the wings for next season, the leadership shown by Chris will surly be missed next season.

The road to Cincinnati was one that Chris wasn't sure would happen. When he visited the Bearcats staff they told him they liked him but didn't offer a scholarship leaving Chris not thinking too much about the Bearcats. But then four days later the call came with a scholarship offer and the rest is Bearcats history.

A team player, Chris knew he would fight for his job every practice but still would work with players looking to take his job over the past couple of years. I don't know how many practices I saw Chris work with Frank Becker and Randy Martinez when the staff moved both to center.

One thing I learned about Chris and his family is they loved watching Chris during his career and couldn't believe it was all coming to an end.

Over the course of the past few years I've had the chance to get to know Bob and Cathi Jurek and would like to thank them for their support.
