Final Time In Nippert Jeff Linkenbach

Friday's game against Illinois was the final time the senior members of the 2009 University of Cincinnati football team took to the Nippert Stadium turf. We take a short look back at each of them and now look at Jeff Linkenbach.

Jeff Linkenbach – Castalia (OH) Margaretta

Class of 2005

Don't let anyone tell you they knew Jeff Linkenbach was going to become one of the best offensive linemen in college football coming out of high school.

Did Jeff have the physical size? Yes! Did he have the skills needed? Yes and No! There was a lot of work needed to be done and there is only one person who deserves credit for where Jeff is at today, and that is Jeff himself.

There may not be another member of this senior class who has done more work to improve than Jeff Linkenbach. Mark Dantonio and his staff had faith Jeff could fill the role they wanted out of an offensive lineman, but when Brian Kelly took over many questioned if Jeff could fit into Kelly's spread system at his size.

To his credit Jeff has worked hard since the day he arrived on campus and continues to work hard knowing he can't have an off day if he wants to be successful.

When Brian Kelly and Paul Longo look for a poster boy they can use Jeff as one. Having watched Jeff grow during his career has been a joy and it will be exciting to see what the future holds.

While I can't say Jeff was a great interview he never turned away when asked to talk. He was always honest and he always shared in his success.

Right now NFL Scouts are talking about Jeff being a higher round draft pick and that doesn't surprise me as I've seen the work ethic and desire to excel Jeff has shown over his career.
