Jibreel Black Talks About Change At UC

With changes at the University of Cincinnati prospects who've given their verbal pledge to the Bearcats are thinking about what their future might be. We check in with Jibreel Black.

When Jibreel Black changed his verbal pledge from Indiana to Cincinnati many saw the 4-star defensive lineman as a sign the Bearcats program had come full circle and reached a new level. It's not everyday the Bearcats picked up such a highly ranked player and Black was giving up the chance to play beside his brother Larry.

So what does Jibreel feel now since the news that Brian Kelly is at Notre Dame? "I'm just numb right now," Black said by phone. "Coach Coombs came into school this week and we talked about it and he said there was a chance Coach Kelly was going or staying and that he'd get back with me when he knew more.

For Black this was to be his official visit weekend but now those plans are played on hold.

"I was to take my visit this weekend. I was to go down to campus in about an hour but Coach Coombs said it's been cancelled and wouldn't be rescheduled until a new head coach was named.

With the stop of his visit Jibreel has made the decision to look at other options and take his visits.

"I think I'm going to take all my visits now. I'm looking at taking a visit at Michigan State, Michigan and Indiana. I might also look at Kentucky."

While Jibreel wouldn't remove his name from the Bearcats official pledge list he did say there are still chances he'd be a Bearcat.

"Right now I'm going to wait and see who they hire as the next coach. If Coach Quinn would get the job and Coach Coombs was on his staff I think there is a very good chance I'd stay at Cincinnati. But if it's a whole new staff I'll have to really look at everything before making any decision.

BearcatInsider.com will continue to catch up with other verbal pledges to get their feelings on the coaching change.
