Blazers Hammer Bearcats

The Cincinnati Bearcat fell for the second straight game on Wednesday night against the UAB Blazers 64-47. Cincinnati failed to bring the intensity it would bring to beat a team the quality of Mike Davis' Blazers team. UAB extended there non-conference home court winning streak to 30 games tonight, in the win. UAB pushed there overall record to 9-1 as UC falls to 6-3.

UAB started the game fast getting the crowd involved and Cincinnati could never recover as in the second half the game only got as close as eight on two different occasions early in the second half, but could not get any closer. UAB once again pulled away after the mini run by the Bearcats to extend there big lead. Cincinnati struggled on the offensive end with UAB aggressive defensive style shooting just 19-60 (31.7 percent) and 3-22 (13.6 percent) from three point range. Cincinnati was also outrebounded 47-34 on the night and UAB collected an impressive 16 offensive rebounds, six by Elijah Milsap.

The Blazers were led by Milsap who scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, showing why he is the number one in Conference USA in rebounding averaging over nine per game. For the Bearcats they were led by Dion Dixon who scored 13 points on four of eleven shooting and also grabbed three rebounds.

The starting backcourt of senior Deonta Vaughn and Cashmere Wright struggled badly going a combined 2-14, as Vaughn scored seven points, grabbed four rebounds and added five turnovers. As for Wright he was 0-5 from the floor scoring zero points, added two assists, and three turnovers. Sophomore Yancy Gates didn't play poorly but just was not involved enough on the offensive end of the floor as he scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds, on 3-8 shooting.

As for the other freshman update, Lance Stephenson had a rough night scoring eight points, but was disqualified late in the second half. He argued his fourth personal foul, his third player control foul of the game with an official showing his frustration. The official game him a technical foul, which gave him his fifth personal and that gave him his disqualification. Freshman guard Jaquon Parker did not play, but non specifics were giving assuming it was just coaches decision. Oklahoma State transfer Ibrahima Thomas played just four minutes in his second game back going 0 for 1 from the field and blocking one shot.

The Bearcats definitely could use some time to clear there heads, but UC will have no such luck as they have to prepare for Lipscomb University, out of Nashville who will visit Fifth Third Arena on Saturday. Lipscomb out of the Atlantic Sun is currently 4-5 but have won four of there last five, and play an aggressive up tempo style of offensive and have scored over 90 points in there last four games, including 105 there last time out against Oakland City, a 105 -68 win. This will be the first meeting between Lipscomb and Cincinnati on Saturday, I will be posting live from the game so lets get on the forum and talk UC Basketball.
