Catching up with Clark

As spring practices for schools across the country come to an end and teams and recruits get ready for the summer, caught up with Cincinnati recruit and Finneytown lineman Donavon Clark.

Donavon Clark, the three-star 2011 prospect, is one of the highly sought after player in the Cincinnati area and already holds a litany of offers from BCS schools as he heads into his senior season of high school, including Cincinnati, West Virginia and USC.

Being from the Cincinnati area has made it easier for Clark to attend some of UC's spring practices and was at the Bearcat Bowl last week. He said he enjoyed his visit to campus and likes the way head coach Butch Jones and his staff run practices.

"It was good. I went down there and got some love from down there so that's always nice," Clark said about his visit. "I like how the pace of the practices have been, real up tempo and physical. He (Jones) has everything set and ready for the upcoming season ."

Being a big-time recruit from the area, Clark said the UC coaches are putting the full-court press on to try and keep the top area players at home.

"They've been good. Every time I go down there they tell me that I could be a hometown hero and things like that," Clark said.

But Clark said that doesn't put any extra pressure on him should he decide to stay home for college as he just tries to always stay focused on the bigger picture.

Some schools are recruiting Clark as a defensive lineman and others as an offensive lineman, but Cincinnati is looking at Clark as an offensive player, but said he truly has no preference which side of the ball he plays on.

Being a highly sought after recruit means a lot of attention from a lot of people and can get overwhelming at time, but Clark said he is enjoying the process.

"Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming but at the same time I'm having a lot of fun. The way I look at it is that I'm blessed to be able to be in this situation," Clark said.

As of right now, Clark says he does not have a top-5 or top-10 list of schools.

"Right now I'm just trying to keep all my options open and not rush into a decision," Clark said. "In the middle of the summer I might start narrow down a few schools on my list, but right now I'm just trying to keep everything open."

Clark has not received any new offers lately but believes two more are coming soon.

"I should be getting one from Iowa because they just got my highlight tape and said they should be offering me after they see my highlight tape. I also should be getting an offer from Clemson in a few weeks," Clark said.
