Maynard likes Cincinnati

With the often cryptic nature of recruiting and the apparent need to keep everything under wraps, it's not often when a player makes his desires known. However, that is exactly what Bishop Watterson defensive tackle Hunter Maynard has done.

"I love UC," Hunter Maynard said. "If they were to offer me today I would commit to Cincinnati."

While the 6'2" 285 pound defensive tackle does not currently hold a offer from Cincinnati, he has been to some of the UC spring practices and was invited to the Bearcats' spring game.

Aside from Cincinnati, Maynard has been recruited by Toledo, Northwestern, Indiana, Bowling Green, Kansas, Duke, UCF and holds an offer from Ball State.

What is it about head coach Butch Jones and Cincinnati that has caught Maynard's eye?

"They just know how to win. I think (Jones) can keep that winning tradition coming from the MAC to the Big East," Maynard said. "That's a big thing with me is winning and winning championships, and I think coach Jones can do that."

While being a sort of under-the-radar type of recruit, things could start to heat up for Maynard. He had a good showing at the Nike Combine in Columbus at the beginning May and has a pretty busy summer ahead of him, with plans on attending camps at Cincinnati and Toledo.

"I know I'm going to a few more, I just haven't sat down and decided exactly which ones right now," Maynard said.
