Cincinnati still in it with Showers

Michigan standout Valdez Showers holds a host of offers, including Cincinnati, and is still playing the field in terms of offers and interest.

As far as Cincinnati is concerned, Valdez Showers says he likes the Queen City.

"It's a good city, the location is good and it's a pretty good school," Showers said.

Showers said he has some history with head coach Butch Jones and his staff with Showers' brother, Valtorrey, having played for Jones at Central Michigan.

The Madison (Michigan) High School standout says he has had a good amount of contact with the UC staff throughout his recruitment.

"I've talked to them a lot. Facebook, e-mails, everything," Showers said.

Despite being listed by as a three-star cornerback prospect Showers is also being recruited as a running back and wide receiver by some schools and said Cincinnati is giving him the option to play wide out or corner.

"I was going to base (what position I play) on this year and see which one I feel more comfortable with and which one I want to take to the next level," Showers said.

Showers currently has 14 offers and believes an offer from Purdue is on the way. The No. 26-ranked cornerback by says he has no leader or top list, but plans on evaluating all of the schools he has been offered by and trimming his list this summer.

Showers has interest from schools as far away as UCLA, and said that distance from home is not a factor in his decision making. He just wants to make sure he finds the right fit for him. And what makes a school the right fit for Showers?

"First is academics, second would be the coaching staff and making sure those are the right guys for me to be with for the next four years or so," Showers said. "Last is making sure the right people will be around me and making me feel comfortable and know that I can stay there the next four years and take care of my business."
